I for one welcome our new demon-bug overlords.

4 January 2007 --

As we explore the arachnid-filled underground complex, it's starting to look as if this place has been inhabited by more people and bugs than your average undergraduate dorm room. The problem is figuring out the sequence of habitation.

The area is part natural cavern and part man-made labyrinth. It has some passages suitable for people, and others that are fit only for giant bugs. Some rooms are filled floor-to-ceiling with spiderwebs, so we've started to think that the teflon-skinned giant hornet was created specifically to navigate through such an environment. But other rooms are classic Gygaxian dungeonish type stuff, with secret doors and hidden keys and various deathtraps. In short: What the hell?

However, we've made progress of sorts. Thanks to Mike's ellyllon's willingness to go through one of the spider-tunnels, we found one living female adult and a dozen or so children, all of whom have no idea how they ended up there -- and who were quite surprised to learn that they apparently walked in on their own two feet. So they're out of danger now, but we're still at a loss about: 1) who has set up permanent housekeeping here (the spiders, we think), 2) who has invaded and is trying to take over (the teflon hornets, apparently), and 3) who if anyone is controlling both sides. For that matter, who disabled the anti-bug wards that had been protecting the town?

I left well before the last fight was over -- though it was sure as hell over for me. Bruce, I think you'll have to field this one.
